N.A.N. GreenMet, Belgium's Silox Group Form JV For Battery Recycling Hub In Andhra Pradesh

Metallurgical Industries Jun 19,2026

N.A.N. GreenMet and Belgium-based Silox Group have formed a 50:50 joint venture, N.A.N. Silox GreenMet Pvt. Ltd., to develop a lithium-ion battery recycling and critical minerals recovery facility in Andhra Pradesh. Land and incentives for the project have already been secured.

The facility is planned in phases and, once fully developed, is expected to handle up to 40,000 tonnes per annum of spent battery shredding capacity and 20,000 tonnes per annum of hydrometallurgical processing capacity. The plant will process used lithium-ion batteries through shredding, beneficiation and refining to recover lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese for reintroduction into the battery manufacturing supply chain.

Beyond core recycling operations, the joint venture is evaluating downstream activities including production of precursor cathode active materials (pCAM) and cathode active materials (CAM), as well as second-life battery applications for stationary energy storage.

Silox Group will contribute hydrometallurgical processing expertise built over four decades, including a proprietary process for recovering battery-grade lithium, cobalt and nickel already validated at pilot scale in India through its subsidiary Silox Specialties India. N.A.N. GreenMet will contribute manufacturing and execution capabilities to scale the operation.

The project has been identified as a potential beneficiary under the Government of India's ₹1,500 crore Critical Minerals Recycling Scheme, aimed at boosting domestic recovery of critical battery materials amid rising demand from the electric vehicle and energy storage sectors.
