Uttar Pradesh Government To Set Up ₹800 Crore Jewellery Park In Meerut
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up a jewellery park in Meerut at an estimated cost of ₹800 crore, aimed at giving the city's jewellery and bullion trade an organised manufacturing base and improved access to international markets. Responsibility for construction has been assigned to the Meerut Development Authority (MDA).
The park will be developed on approximately 36,000 square metres of land in Vedvyaspuri. MDA officials presented a model of the project to local traders, with the complex designed in the shape of a crown, with an entrance styled like an earring.
The jewellery park is planned to include showrooms, wholesale trade centres, artisan workshops, production units, exhibition spaces, banking facilities and shared service centres. Officials also briefed traders on the project structure, allotment process, available facilities and proposed rates during the presentation.
Trade bodies expect the park to give Meerut's jewellery industry greater national recognition, increase production capacity, support exports and generate employment in the sector.
