Tata Advanced Systems Signs MoU With Javelin Joint Venture for Anti-Tank Missile Co-Production Facility in India
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and the Javelin Joint Venture (JJV), a partnership between Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, have signed a memorandum of understanding on August 30 for the co-production of the Javelin All Up Round (AUR) anti-tank missile system in India. TASL was selected as JJV's prime Indian partner following an evaluation of multiple domestic companies on technical capability and expertise.
Under the MoU, the two parties will assess the feasibility of establishing a dedicated final assembly and integration facility for the Javelin AUR in India, along with capabilities for domestic component manufacturing. The Javelin AUR is a fully assembled, ready-to-use missile package containing all components required for deployment.
The proposed manufacturing arrangement will link supply chains across two countries: sub-assembly kits are planned to be produced at Lockheed Martin's facility in Troy, Alabama, and guidance electronics units at Raytheon's facility in Tucson, Arizona. These components would then be shipped to India for final assembly and integration by TASL.
The initiative follows India's recent approval to procure the Javelin fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile system for the Indian Army. Company representatives said the collaboration is intended to build a defence manufacturing workforce in India, support supply chain resilience for the Javelin programme, and create opportunities for India's broader defence industrial base.
