Indian Railways Sanctions ₹139 Crore Shastriya Bridge Reconstruction in Indore
Indian Railways has approved the reconstruction of Shastriya Bridge in Indore Yard at a cost of ₹139 crore. The project is aimed at improving urban mobility, easing traffic congestion and strengthening rail-road connectivity in Madhya Pradesh, and forms part of Indian Railways' broader infrastructure modernisation programme.
The new bridge will be developed as a four-lane Road Over Bridge featuring a 72-metre camel-back superstructure with PSC girders and a full viaduct arrangement. Service roads 6 metres wide will be constructed on both sides beneath the bridge to facilitate local traffic movement.
The project also includes relocation and upgrading of existing sewer infrastructure through new sewer lines to maintain uninterrupted drainage, along with shifting and modernisation of electrical infrastructure, including new poles, lighting systems and associated utility equipment.
Once completed, the project is expected to improve road connectivity across Indore, reduce traffic bottlenecks and support the city's transportation needs while enhancing integration between railway and urban transport infrastructure.
