Infrastructure Jun 18,2026

Indian Railways has approved the doubling of the Adipur–Bhuj section of Western Railway in Gujarat at an estimated cost of ₹493 crore. The section, which currently operates as a single line, lies on the Gandhidham–Naliya corridor.

The project will add a second rail line along the 49-km stretch between Adipur and Bhuj. The route connects with other ongoing railway works in the region, including the Bhuj–Naliya gauge conversion and new lines linking Naliya–Jakhau, Vayor–Lakhpat and Deshalpar–Luna.

Once complete, the doubled line is expected to support two additional passenger train services in each direction daily, along with capacity for an additional 12 MTPA of freight traffic. Indian Railways has projected that line capacity utilisation on the section would reach 123 per cent by 2029–30 without intervention, underscoring the need for the upgrade.

The doubling work is aimed at easing congestion and improving operational reliability on the route, supporting both freight and passenger connectivity in western Gujarat and broader economic activity across the Kutch region
