Infrastructure Jun 12,2026

Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has received approval from the World Bank to launch the civil construction tender for Phase 2 of the Gurugram Metro project. The tender, estimated at ₹1,400 crore, covers the construction of 14 metro stations and the rail corridor connecting Sector 9 to CyberHub, spanning approximately 13 km. The tender is to be floated within days of receiving the approval.

Phase 2 will pass through densely populated and commercially active parts of Old Gurugram, including Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Palam Vihar, Sector 22, and Udyog Vihar Phase 1. The corridor will also provide an interchange connection with the Rapid Metro and the Namo Bharat Rail network at Shankar Chowk.

The total estimated cost of Phase 2 stands at ₹3,500 crore. GMRL has submitted a ₹2,800 crore loan proposal to the World Bank, which is expected to fund approximately 60 percent of Phase 2's cost. The Haryana Cabinet has approved a revised total project cost of ₹10,266.54 crore for the entire Gurugram Metro expansion, with full World Bank funding replacing an earlier European Investment Bank arrangement.

Phase 2 forms part of a 28.5 km elevated metro corridor linking Millennium City Centre to Cyber City with 27 stations. Phase 1, covering the 15.2 km stretch from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, is already under construction with an estimated cost of approximately ₹1,277 crore and a targeted completion in 2028. The civil contract for Phase 1 was awarded to the joint venture of Dilip Buildcon and RBL.

GMRL has also requested the transfer of over 14,000 sq m of land from the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran to facilitate Phase 2 construction. A separate fresh tender for the Phase 2 depot in Sector 33 is also expected, after an earlier bidding process received limited participation.
