The Central Government has granted administrative and technical approval worth ₹1,663.15 crore for the first phase of the Kollam–Theni National Highway 183 project in Kerala. The approved phase covers a 54.37 km corridor running from Kadavoor Bypass Junction in Kollam to Anjilimoodu near Chengannur. The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model with a stipulated completion period of 24 months.

The approved cost is broken down into ₹689.20 crore for civil works, ₹331.64 crore for land acquisition and related procedures, and ₹394.19 crore for demolition and compensation. The corridor will be developed into a four-lane national highway with a 20-metre width.

The scope of civil works includes three major bridges, six minor bridges, 103 culverts, one railway overbridge, and two vehicle underpasses. A drainage network of 88.81 km will also be constructed. Road safety infrastructure comprising crash barriers, modern signboards, solar LED blinkers, median mast lights, and high-mast lights is included in the project scope. A total of 48 bus bays will be provided along the corridor.

The project also covers the upgrade of 16 major junctions and 18 smaller junctions along the alignment. The upgraded corridor is intended to improve freight movement, reduce travel time between key towns, and strengthen trade and logistics activity across the Kollam and Chengannur regions of central Travancore.
