TKG Taekwang India to Set Up ₹514 Crore Non-Leather Footwear Manufacturing Facility at ELCOT SEZ, Navalpattu, Tiruchy
TKG Taekwang India Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of South Korean footwear manufacturer TKG Taekwang, has secured clearance from the Unit Approval Committee under Rule 18(2) of the SEZ Rules, 2006 to establish a non-leather footwear manufacturing facility at the ELCOT Special Economic Zone in Navalpattu, Tiruchy. The approval was granted on June 8, 2026.
The proposed plant will be developed on 69 acres of land within the SEZ campus and involves a total investment of ₹514 crore (approximately USD 54 million). The facility will have an annual production capacity of approximately 14.98 million pairs of athletic footwear, intended for supply to global footwear brands including Nike.
The project is expected to generate direct employment for 13,364 persons, comprising 11,629 women, 1,602 men, and 133 transgender persons. Authorities have also approved construction of an employee amenities block within the SEZ premises. The facility is projected to generate exports worth ₹5,453.5 crore during its first five years of operation.
TKG Taekwang had originally signed an MOU with the Tamil Nadu government during the Global Investors Meet 2024. Guidance Tamil Nadu is working closely with the company to facilitate project implementation. The investment adds to Tamil Nadu's growing cluster of non-leather athletic footwear manufacturing capacity, alongside facilities from other South Korean and Taiwanese footwear manufacturers operating in the state.
