Arunachal Pradesh Signs MoU with Norway's Tidal Sail AS for India's First 500 kW River Kinetic Energy Demonstration Plant
The Government of Arunachal Pradesh, through its Centre for Earth Sciences & Himalayan Studies (CES&HS), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Norwegian company Tidal Sail AS to implement a 500 kW River Kinetic Energy Demonstration Project. The agreement was signed in New Delhi under the India-Norway Green Partnership, and is billed as India's first river kinetic energy demonstration plant.
The project will use technology that generates electricity directly from flowing river currents, without requiring dams or major civil infrastructure. It is supported by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, and Innovation Norway.
The demonstration plant is intended to test decentralized power generation for remote and inaccessible parts of the state, drawing on Arunachal Pradesh's extensive river network. CES&HS said the project would form part of a broader collaboration with Norwegian institutions, including the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, spanning geothermal energy and sustainable infrastructure development.
