Uno Minda Approves ₹320 Crore Greenfield Passenger Vehicle Seating Systems Plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra

Automotive Industries Jul 08,2026

Auto components manufacturer Uno Minda Limited has approved an investment of approximately ₹320 crore to establish a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), Maharashtra. The project marks the company's entry into the four-wheeler passenger vehicle seating systems segment.

The plant will be developed with an annual production capacity of 2.4 lakh seating systems and is expected to begin commercial operations by the fourth quarter of FY28. Uno Minda plans to scale up capacity further in phases through FY31, depending on market demand. The project will be executed through Uno Minda Tachi-S Seating Private Limited, the company's joint venture with Japan-based TACHI-S Company Limited, a globally recognised automotive seating manufacturer.

The expansion represents Uno Minda's move into one of the higher-value product categories in the automotive supply chain, allowing the company to increase its content per vehicle while expanding its presence in India's passenger vehicle market.

The seating systems plant follows other recent capacity announcements by Uno Minda. In February 2026, the company disclosed plans for a dedicated manufacturing facility for all-wheel-drive (AW4W) systems in Maharashtra, and in May 2026 it announced a four-wheeler EV powertrain project along with additional investment in its electric vehicle business, continuing its expansion across both conventional and electric vehicle component segments.
