Mining Jul 13,2026

The Ministry of Coal is inviting applications under the Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal/Lignite Gasification Projects, approved by the government on 13 May 2026 with a total financial outlay of ₹37,500 crore. The scheme aims to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects to enhance value addition, reduce import dependence, and support India's push for self-reliance in the energy and chemical sectors.

Following approval of the scheme, the Scheme Guidelines were issued on 25 June 2026, and the Request for Proposal (RFP) was published on 7 July 2026, inviting eligible applicants to submit project proposals.

To help stakeholders understand the scheme provisions and application process, the Ministry will hold a Pre-Application Conference on 20 July 2026, where prospective applicants can raise queries for clarification.

The last date for submission of applications is 7 September 2026. The Scheme Guidelines, RFP, and detailed application timeline are available on the Ministry of Coal website for interested entities to review.

The scheme is expected to draw interest from coal and lignite producers, chemical manufacturers, and EPC contractors involved in gasification technology, as India works to scale up domestic gasification capacity as part of its broader energy security and import-substitution goals.
