Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce to Partner on Indigenous AMCA Fighter Jet Engine Development

Miscellaneous Aug 17,2026

Reliance Industries Limited and Rolls-Royce have announced their strategic intent to partner on the design, development, manufacturing and delivery of an indigenous combat engine for India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme, aimed at building sovereign propulsion capability for the fifth-generation fighter jet.

As part of the partnership, the two companies will explore forming a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India, intended to serve as a centre of excellence for power and propulsion technology. The complex would bring together design, development, manufacturing, testing, production and through-life support capabilities within India.

The collaboration combines Rolls-Royce's expertise in advanced propulsion technology with Reliance's manufacturing, technology and execution capabilities, and is positioned to support India's broader push for technology indigenisation under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

The AMCA is the first fighter jet programme for which India's Ministry of Defence has opened manufacturing to the private sector. Three consortiums — Tata Advanced Systems, a group led by Larsen & Toubro with Bharat Electronics and Dynamatic Technologies, and a group comprising Bharat Forge, BEML and Data Patterns — have been shortlisted to submit bids for manufacturing prototype aircraft, adding to the broader industrial ecosystem building around the AMCA programme.
