Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav performed the bhoomi poojan for the ₹5,017 crore Ujjain-Jaora Greenfield Four-Lane Corridor, a 98.73-km highway being developed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC). The project is scheduled for completion by December 2027, ahead of the Simhastha 2028 religious congregation in Ujjain.

The corridor will provide a direct link between Ujjain and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, passing through the Ujjain South, Ghatiya, Nagda-Khachrod, Alot and Jaora assembly constituencies. It is expected to benefit around 3.5 million people, connecting 50 villages in Ujjain district and 12 villages in Ratlam district. The project was originally planned as an access-controlled highway but has been redesigned as a non-access-controlled corridor to improve regional connectivity.

Engineering works under the project include seven flyovers, three rail overbridges, eight major bridges, 22 medium bridges, 36 underpasses, two overpasses and 430 culverts. Service roads are also planned on both sides between the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway interchange at the Jaora bypass and the Mhow-Neemuch four-lane highway.

Alongside the highway, the state government announced related infrastructure works for the region, including widening of the existing Ujjain-Jaora road, a four-lane highway connecting Nagda and Khachrod with Ratlam, a pea market and food processing unit in Khachrod, a dam across the Chambal River at Atalawada-Ninavatkheda in the Nagda constituency, and a new Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Nagda.

The corridor is expected to strengthen road links between Ujjain, Indore, Bhopal and other parts of the Malwa region, reducing travel time and transport costs for agricultural and industrial goods while supporting pilgrim traffic during Simhastha 2028.
