Bihar Announces ₹70,000 Crore, 126-Km Marine Drive Along Ganga River
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced a plan to construct a 126-kilometre Marine Drive along the Ganga river, with an estimated investment of ₹70,000 crore. The announcement was made at the concluding ceremony of the Employment Fair (Rojgar Mela) at Gyan Bhavan near Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
Of the total outlay, the Bihar government will contribute ₹20,000 crore, while private entities are expected to invest the remaining ₹50,000 crore. The corridor will begin at Koilwar on the Son River and extend along the full stretch of the Ganga through the state.
The project builds on the existing 21-km Marine Drive (JP Ganga Path) in Patna, which was initiated in 2013 and completed in 2025 at a cost of around ₹6,000 crore using state resources. The new corridor scales up that riverfront model into a much larger regional infrastructure network spanning multiple districts along the river.
The government expects the project to generate large-scale employment across civil construction, engineering, transportation and project management during construction, with further job creation anticipated from commercial and tourism-linked development once the corridor is operational.
Implementation will require land acquisition, environmental clearances, detailed project reports and coordination across multiple government agencies given the 126-km route length.
