IFC Commits ₹3,500 Crore in Sify Infinit Spaces to Build Two Data Centres in Navi Mumbai and Chennai
International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private lending arm of the World Bank Group, has committed $371 Mn (₹3,500 Cr) to Sify Infinit Spaces Ltd. (SISL), a subsidiary of Sify Technologies, to support the development of two data centres in Navi Mumbai and Chennai.
The two facilities will have a combined capacity of 103 MW. The financial package comprises a loan of $71 Mn (₹675 Cr) along with $300 Mn (₹2,830 Cr) in additional support mobilised through debt, aimed at supporting SISL's growth and expansion plans in India.
The data centres are designed for AI-ready workloads and will incorporate energy-efficient cooling systems. The facilities will run on renewable energy and will be built in line with Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum rating specifications.
The investment forms part of the World Bank Group's Country Partnership Framework for India. IFC stated that the funding is intended to expand access to cloud and AI-ready infrastructure, mobilise private capital into the data centre sector, and support employment generation in the region.
The commitment comes amid a broader wave of capital inflows into India's data centre sector, with India's total data centre capacity projected to cross 8 GW by 2030 on the back of rising AI and cloud demand.
