    The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a new Outer Harbor Project at a major port in Thoothukudi, comprising harbor infrastructure and container terminal expansion. The project includes breakwaters, rock bunds, wharfs, backup yard infrastructure, and two container terminals with 1,000 meter quay length each, capable of handling 4 to 5.2 Million TEUs. The project is currently at the approval stage with implementation to follow under Hybrid Annuity and DBFOT models.

    A state maritime authority is expanding one of the world's largest ship recycling yards at Alang-Sosiya in Gujarat, raising annual dismantling capacity from about 4 MLDT to 9 MLDT. The expansion involves development of additional ship recycling plots, upgraded utilities, road connectivity, and a treatment/disposal facility for hazardous waste generated during recycling operations.

    A Navratna defence PSU has proposed developing a large shipbuilding and ship repair cluster at Dugarajapatnam, Nellore district, with an estimated investment of around ₹26,000 crore. The state government plans to allocate 1,000 acres for the shipyard and 1,350 acres for ancillary industries, while an Expression of Interest has been issued to appoint a consultant for the Detailed Project Report. The project is currently at an early planning stage, with land acquisition and subsidy terms still under discussion between the company and the state government.

The project follows an MoU signed between the promoter and a special-purpose state entity, and is expected to generate around 90,000 jobs. It is currently at the MoU/announcement stage, with no construction timeline disclosed yet.

    A Gujarat-based shipyard facility is being expanded to enhance jetty and cargo handling capacity to 6.15 million TPA for salt, chemical products and containers, along with capital dredging of about 5 million m3 and annual maintenance dredging of 2 million m3 to deepen the navigation channel and jetty pocket. The expansion also involves reclamation and strengthening of low-lying land behind the jetty. The proposal is currently under examination by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for Environmental Clearance
