Uttar Pradesh Invests ₹5,400 Crore in Green Energy Corridor-II to Evacuate 22,000 MW Solar Capacity from Bundelkhand
Uttar Pradesh Power Transmission Corporation Limited (UPPTCL) is developing the Green Energy Corridor-II project at an estimated investment of ₹5,400 crore, aimed at building a dedicated green power transmission network to support the state's target of 22,000 MW of solar capacity. The project will be financed through a combination of grants, equity from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), and loans from multilateral financial institutions.
The corridor is designed primarily to evacuate solar power generated in the Bundelkhand region, which comprises solar-rich districts including Jhansi, Jalaun, and Lalitpur. Power evacuated through the corridor will be transmitted to western Uttar Pradesh districts. UPPTCL will develop dedicated solar evacuation corridors and transmission pooling stations in solar-rich zones to facilitate the grid integration of utility-scale solar projects in the region.
The Green Energy Corridor-II builds on Uttar Pradesh's existing progress under Phase I of the national Green Energy Corridor programme. UPPTCL has already facilitated evacuation of green power from at least one greenfield solar plant in Bundelkhand under the earlier phase.
The broader transmission infrastructure investment supports Uttar Pradesh's renewable energy scale-up targets and forms a key enabler for the solar parks under development in the Bundelkhand belt. Further project execution timelines and procurement details have not been disclosed.
