Energy needs are increasing quickly due to Hyderabad's rapid population growth and the new infrastructure that is being built in and around the city.
The Telangana government is creating an electricity transmission network to meet the demands of the IT Corridor and other infrastructure projects that will soon be built in and around Hyderabad because it anticipates a significant increase in power usage in the near future.
According to Energy Department officials, the Transmission Corporation of Telangana Limited (TS TRANSCO) was setting up a series of 220 KV substations on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to ensure continuous power supply in and around Hyderabad city. The idea behind setting up these substations was to see that whenever there is a breakdown in an area, power could be supplied through another transmission line without much delay, officials said.
Already, to provide uninterrupted quality power to the IT Corridor and major infrastructure projects, IT campuses and upcoming infrastructure projects coming up in Gachibowli, financial district and surrounding areas, the State government has set up a Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) with a capacity of 400 KV at Raidurg.
