Gujarat to get a major fillip with two new Rail and Road infrastructural projects

Infrastructure  -  Jul 17,2023  -

With the launch of two significant infrastructure projects in the state—the 6-lane greenfield motorway of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor and the economic rail corridor from Haryana to Gujarat—ports in Gujarat are poised for a corporate boost.

The Union Railway Ministry has authorised the 129 km South Haryana Economic Rail Corridor which will provide direct rail connectivity from Haryana to the four ports of Gujarat - Kandla, Mundra, Navlakhi and Jakhau. The upcoming project is expected to drastically shorten travel time between Delhi and other cities of Rajasthan, including Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh.

The report said the rail corridor will boost connectivity between Delhi and regions like Gandhidham, Bhuj, and Dwarka in Gujarat.

A highly placed Gujarat government official told that as of now the ports in Northern and Southern India get the benefit of connectivity. "But with these two major infrastructure developments it will boost Gujarat's port sector," said the official. The official further said among all the non-major ports in India, Gujarat's ports account for 60% of the country's cargo.

"The rail corridor and express highway connectivity will save ample time and money which will increase the import-export trade from Gujarat ports," said the official.

As Gujarat boasts of the longest coastline in India more ports may come up in the state.
