Tamil Nadu Signs ₹1,000 Crore MoU with Hitachi Energy for Chennai and Chengalpattu Expansion
The Tamil Nadu government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hitachi Energy for expansion projects in the state. Under the MoU, Hitachi Energy will invest approximately ₹1,000 crore over the next three to five years, supporting expansion projects in Porur, Chennai, and Chengalpattu.
The investment covers expansion of Hitachi Energy Technology Services' Global Technology and Innovation Centre (GTIC) in Porur, along with a new manufacturing line at Hitachi Energy India's existing facility in Chengalpattu.
The new production line will manufacture semiconductor-based equipment used in High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology for long-distance power transmission and grid modernisation. The additional line will be set up within the existing Chengalpattu facility, alongside the company's current HVDC valve manufacturing operations.
According to the state government, the projects are expected to generate around 1,000 high-skilled technology jobs. The investment strengthens Tamil Nadu's position in advanced power technology manufacturing and engineering, expanding both research and manufacturing capabilities at Hitachi Energy's existing facilities and reinforcing the state's focus on attracting power electronics projects linked to clean energy and electrification
