Infrastructure May 29,2026

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma laid foundation stones on May 28, 2026 for multiple road projects worth an estimated ₹488 crore in East and West Jaintia Hills districts. The projects will cover a combined length of over 108 km and are intended to improve regional connectivity, tourism access and logistics infrastructure across the coal-bearing region.

The largest component is a ₹355 crore road upgradation package funded by the World Bank under the Meghalaya Logistics and Connectivity Improvement Project. The scope covers upgradation of the Dkhiah–Sutnga–Saipung–Pala–Semmasi corridor in East Jaintia Hills and strengthening of the Dkhiah–Sutnga–Saipung–Moulsei–Haflong road.

Additional works include improvement of roads leading to Chympe Waterfalls and Khaddum, construction of the Shkemtalang–Lumshyrmit road, and construction of a major bridge over the Myntdu river connecting NH-6.

Tenders for the major road works have already been floated and construction activities are expected to begin within 45 days. The projects will be implemented in phases across East and West Jaintia Hills districts.
