Kandla Port to increase capacity to 390 million tonnes per annum by 2030

Infrastructure  -  Nov 11,2024  -

The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), formerly known as Kandla Port, plans to boost its capacity to 390 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2030. Currently, the port handles approximately 120 MTPA, and the ambitious expansion aims to cater to growing trade and logistics demands, positioning it as one of India’s leading ports.

As part of this growth initiative, the Deendayal Port Authority is undertaking various infrastructure upgrades, including the development of new terminals and the expansion of existing facilities. The port is also focusing on improving its connectivity with key highways and rail networks to facilitate smoother cargo movement.

The expansion of Kandla Port is seen as crucial for enhancing India's export-import capabilities, particularly in the western region. The port is strategically located along the Arabian Sea coast, making it a vital hub for the transportation of bulk goods, including petroleum products, chemicals, and agricultural commodities.

In addition to infrastructure upgrades, the DPA is working on adopting modern technologies to enhance operational efficiency, including automation and digitalization of port services. This move is expected to reduce turnaround time, increase throughput, and contribute to India's overall competitiveness in global trade.

As the port continues its development journey, it remains a key player in India's maritime industry, supporting the government’s vision to achieve higher trade volumes and foster economic growth.
