Government to Set Up Critical Mineral Processing Parks in Gujarat, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra
The Centre has selected Odisha, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra as locations for four critical mineral processing parks, aimed at strengthening India's domestic value chain for strategic mineral resources. The projects will be supported by an allocation of ₹500 crore under the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM).
The locations for all four parks were finalised following a review meeting held on April 22 with representatives of the respective state governments. The government's initial focus for the parks is on lithium and nickel processing, given their growing importance in battery manufacturing and clean-energy technologies.
Each proposed park will be designed to support the complete value chain of a designated critical mineral, bringing mineral processing together with downstream manufacturing industries within an integrated industrial location. State governments will lead the planning and implementation of the parks, while the Centre will provide technical support.
The initiative forms part of the broader National Critical Mineral Mission, which carries a total outlay of ₹34,300 crore over seven years and aims to accelerate domestic and overseas mineral exploration, develop processing capabilities, and strengthen India's access to critical raw materials used in EV batteries and clean energy applications.
