Cabinet approves Rs 7,927 crore multi-tracking railway projects

Infrastructure  -  Nov 26,2024  -

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved three major railway projects proposed by the Ministry of Railways at a cumulative cost of Rs 7,927 crore.

The projects include the construction of a fourth line along the Jalgaon-Manmad route (160 km), third and fourth lines between Bhusawal-Khandwa (131 km), and a third line on the Prayagraj-Manikpur section (84 km).

Spanning seven districts across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, these projects collectively extend the Indian Railways network by 639 km. They aim to alleviate congestion on the busy Mumbai-Prayagraj corridor, enhance operational efficiency, and facilitate the transport of critical commodities such as agricultural products, coal, steel, cement, and containers.

The projects hold significant socio-economic benefits, connecting approximately 1,319 villages and serving a population of about 38 lakh people. Two aspirational districts, Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh and Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, will benefit directly from improved rail connectivity.

The infrastructure will support not only freight but also additional passenger trains, making religious and cultural sites more accessible.

It will offer improved access to pilgrims traveling to iconic destinations such as Nashik’s Trimbakeshwar, Khandwa’s Omkareshwar, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, and Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath.

Enhanced tourism is another key outcome, as the improved network provides better access to significant attractions such as Khajuraho temples, Ajanta and Ellora caves, Devgiri and Rewa forts, Asirgarh Fort, and wildlife sanctuaries like Yawal. It also connects scenic spots like Keoti and Purwa Falls, boosting regional tourism.
