Andhra Pradesh Extends Deadline for ₹4,923 Crore Ramayapatnam Greenfield Port to December 2026
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved a second extension of time for the Ramayapatnam greenfield port project, moving the completion deadline to December 30, 2026. The Tender Evaluation and EPC Committee recommended the extension, and the government order was issued by the Infrastructure and Investment Department. The extension follows a request from the EPC contractor citing factors affecting project execution.
The port's original completion date was June 23, 2025, which had already been pushed to April 27, 2026 under an earlier extension. The government has clarified that no additional financial amount will be granted on account of the extension of time. The project carries a revised administrative sanction of ₹4,923 crore, approved in February 2024, with technical sanction dating back to November 2020.
The Ramayapatnam port is being developed by the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board on a design-build-finance-operate-transfer basis in Prakasam district, spread across roughly 2,538 acres and planned for 19 berths at full build-out, including a captive liquid berth. Phase A capacity is designed at approximately 34 million tonnes per annum, against a master-plan capacity of over 138 million tonnes per annum. As of mid-July 2026, Phase A construction progress stood at over 80%. Navayuga Engineering Company is the executing agency for the project.
The state has also directed officials to prepare proposals for connecting infrastructure, including a proposed northern road corridor and a parallel double railway line, to support the port's long-term operations. Ramayapatnam is one of four new ports Andhra Pradesh aims to complete by December 2026, alongside Kakinada Gateway Port, Machilipatnam Port and Mulapeta Port.
