Amara Raja Energy & Mobility has taken a significant step forward in India’s battery manufacturing sector with the inauguration of its new battery pack plant and the foundation stone laying for a Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) at the Gigacorridor in Divitipalli, Mahbubnagar district.
The Gigacorridor, spanning 260 acres, is set to become a hub for battery pack and cell manufacturing, with a projected capacity of 5GWh and 16GWh by 2031.
The newly inaugurated Phase 1 of the battery pack plant has a current capacity of 1.5 GWh and is designed to produce lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery packs tailored for Indian conditions.
These battery packs will cater to electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and stationary energy storage needs.
The upcoming CQP, expected to be operational by Q1 of the next financial year, will focus on producing various cell types for customer testing and validation.
This development follows Amara Raja’s recent collaboration with Gotion Inobat (GIB) to enhance technology, manufacturing, and custom solutions.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by industry leaders, including Jayadev Galla, Chairman and Managing Director of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility, and executives from companies such as Piaggio Vehicles India, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Ather Energy.
This event marks a critical phase in Amara Raja’s broader strategy to drive India’s energy transition and create sustainable job opportunities in the region.
