    A new Semiconductor and Electronics Manufacturing Park is planned at Maduramangalam in Kancheepuram district with an investment of Rs 175 crore, featuring R&D facilities to support companies setting up semiconductor manufacturing units. The park is expected to attract further investments of up to Rs 2,000 crore in the semiconductor sector and generate around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. The project was announced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and is currently at the announcement stage.

The facility is planned to handle vessels up to 24,000 TEUs with a maximum length overall of 400 metres. The project is aimed at meeting rising export-import and transhipment demand in line with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

The project is currently under verification with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for fresh Environmental Clearance under Category B2, with construction yet to commence at site.

The port authority's board has approved the price bid for the roughly ₹2,000 crore project.
