Vedanta and Foxconn end their joint venture for chip plant in India

Manufacturing  -  Jul 11,2023  -

The Anil Agarwal-led Vedanta firm and Taiwanese giant Foxconn have ended their joint venture almost a year after agreeing to build a Rs 1.54 trillion facility in Gujarat.

The JV had declared earlier this year that a semiconductor and display manufacturing plant would be established in the Dholera Special Investment Region, close to Ahmedabad, following an MoU with the Gujarat government in September.

The first semiconductor facility in India would have been this one.

Manufacturing of semiconductors—essential components used in electronic devices for anything from communications to healthcare and transportation to military systems—has been in the limelight in the midst of a tech war between the US and China.

While more than 90 per cent of the most advanced semiconductors are manufactured in Taiwan, the other countries making chips include South Korea, Japan, US and China.
