Tata Power to Set Up 10 GW Integrated Solar Manufacturing Facility in Odisha
Tata Power Chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced at the company's annual general meeting that Tata Power will expand its solar manufacturing capacity with a new 10 GW project to be formally announced in Odisha in the coming months. The proposed facility will manufacture ingots, wafers, solar cells and modules, strengthening the company's position in India's domestic solar supply chain.
The company currently operates a 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing plant at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, which combined with an additional facility in Bengaluru takes its existing solar manufacturing capacity to 4.9 GW. The Odisha project would substantially expand this footprint.
The new facility forms part of Tata Power's broader capital expenditure plan, under which the company has earmarked approximately ₹1 trillion through 2029-30, averaging annual investment of around ₹25,000 crore over the next four financial years across generation, transmission, distribution, renewables and manufacturing.
Tata Power is targeting a total power generation capacity of 30 GW by 2030, including 20 GW from renewable sources, up from an operational capacity of 16.7 GW and a total portfolio, including pipeline projects, of over 26 GW. During FY26, the company commissioned around 2.5 GW of renewable energy capacity, with a further 5.1 GW currently under execution, alongside progress on hydro projects including the 1,000 MW Bhivpuri and 1,800 MW Shirawta pumped storage projects.
The Odisha solar manufacturing project is expected to play a central role in reducing India's dependence on imported solar components and supporting the country's push toward domestic renewable energy manufacturing.
