Bridge Green Upcycle Inaugurates Tamil Nadu's First Critical Mineral Recovery Plant at Gummidipoondi With 7,200 MTPA Capacity; Plans ₹500–1,000 Crore Expansion Over Five Years
Bridge Green Upcycle has inaugurated its Circularity Center in Gummidipoondi, Chennai, marking Tamil Nadu’s first facility dedicated to recovering critical minerals from lithium-ion batteries and battery manufacturing scrap.
The plant has an initial capacity of 7,200 tonnes per year and will extract key materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, manganese, copper, and graphite from end-of-life batteries and industrial waste. These recovered materials will be reused in India’s battery supply chain, supporting circular economy goals and reducing dependence on imported raw materials.
The company plans to invest ₹500–₹1,000 crore over the next five years to expand the facility, with expected job creation of over 800 positions as battery waste volumes rise sharply in India due to EVs, energy storage systems, and electronics growth.
Overall, the project positions Bridge Green Upcycle as an early mover in India’s battery recycling and critical mineral recovery ecosystem, aligned with the country’s push for secure and sustainable clean energy supply chains.
