A major steel manufacturing project is planned in Rakha Jungle, near Kharagpur, West Bengal, focusing on producing 350,000 MT/year of hot metal from a blast furnace, 575,000 MT/year from an electric arc furnace, 663,000 MT/year of billets, and 300,000 MT/year of sponge iron. With a projected cost of Rs. 20,588 million, state pollution control approval was granted in October 2024.
