A Chennai-based firm plans to build a sponge iron manufacturing plant in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. The project includes DRI kilns, induction furnaces, rolling mills, and power facilities to produce 300,000 TPA sponge iron for captive use and generate 600,000 TPA billets and 500,000 TPA rolled products. Estimated at Rs. 47.5 million, construction will occur from January to December 2025. The project awaits environmental clearance as of August 2023.
