Power Generation Aug 17,2026

Vikram Solar Limited has commissioned a 6 GW solar module manufacturing plant at Gangaikondan, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The facility is located within a 186-acre greenfield campus.

The plant is planned to expand beyond module manufacturing to include solar cell, wafer and ingot manufacturing, creating an integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem. Vikram Solar plans to establish 9 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity by FY 2026-27, with further expansion planned by FY 2027-28.

The company has been building out its order book alongside the new capacity. In February 2026, Vikram Solar secured an order to supply 378.75 MW of solar modules for a project tendered by NGEL, to be installed near Nakhatrana in Gujarat's Kutch district as part of a 600 MW solar project being developed by Indian Oil NTPC Green Energy Private Limited. Also in February 2026, the company entered into a domestic cell procurement agreement with Jupiter International Limited for 2 GW of ALMM-compliant crystalline solar cells, valued at approximately ₹2,000 crore.

The new Tamil Nadu facility adds to the state's growing base of integrated solar manufacturing capacity and supports India's push toward domestic value addition across the solar PV supply chain.
