Haldia Petrochemicals Limited (HPL) is set to inaugurate its new phenol and acetone manufacturing facility in Haldia, West Bengal, on October 14, 2026. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari is expected to inaugurate the facility ahead of Durga Puja.

The ₹6,000 crore project is being developed through HPL's subsidiary, Adplus Polymers & Chemicals, and marks a major expansion of the company's petrochemical manufacturing capabilities. The plant is designed to produce phenol and acetone, chemical building blocks used across the pharmaceuticals, paints, coatings and automotive components industries.

The facility also includes India's first on-purpose propylene plant based on Olefin Conversion Technology (OCT) from Lummus Technology, positioning HPL as an integrated player in the phenolics chain. Site execution for the plant, described as the largest phenol plant in India, began in early 2024 with a planned production capacity of 300 KTPA of phenol and 185 KTPA of acetone.

By expanding domestic production of these chemical intermediates, HPL aims to support growing demand from downstream industries and reduce India's reliance on imported phenol and acetone, adding to the country's domestic petrochemical manufacturing base.
