Valmet to Supply 350 BDT/Day BCTMP Line to ITC’s Bhadrachalam Pulp and Paper Mill, Start-Up Scheduled for Q2 2028
Valmet will supply a complete bleached chemi-thermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) line to ITC’s Bhadrachalam pulp and paper mill. The line has a capacity of 350 bone-dry tonnes per day. Start-up is scheduled for the second quarter of 2028. The order was booked in the second quarter of 2026, and its value has not been disclosed.
Valmet’s scope covers evaporation, flash drying and baling. It also includes a Valmet DNA distributed control system, flow control and spare parts. A White Liquor Disc Filter will be supplied for recausticising.
The line uses high-temperature HT-CTMP processing, which is meant to preserve fibre integrity and reduce refining energy use. The pulp is aimed at bulk and strength properties suited to lightweight board. Evaporation will concentrate spent pulping liquor for burning in the mill’s recovery boiler. Flash drying and baling will give flexibility in balancing production.
ITC’s Paperboards and Specialty Papers Division is part of ITC Limited and is headquartered in Hyderabad. It operates mills at Bhadrachalam, Tribeni, Kovai and Bollaram. The cooperation with Valmet at Bhadrachalam began with a multilayer board machine supplied in the 1990s. It has continued through technology deliveries, maintenance and upgrades, including ITC’s high-power recovery boiler.
