Mahagenco’s ₹13,200 Crore 2660 MW Supercritical Expansion at Koradi Thermal Power Station, Nagpur: Project Status Update
Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (Mahagenco) is building a 2660 MW supercritical thermal expansion at Koradi Thermal Power Station in Nagpur. The Central Electricity Authority’s status report as of January 31, 2026 puts the latest estimated project cost at ₹13,200 crore. The new units will be Units 11 and 12.
BHEL received a Letter of Award from Mahagenco in February 2025 for the 2660 MW boiler-turbine-generator (BTG) package, valued at about ₹8,000 crore. The package covers equipment supply, erection, commissioning and civil works. Completion is expected within 52 to 54 months of the award.
Indian Railway Finance Corporation signed a loan agreement with Mahagenco in September 2025 for up to ₹10,560 crore. The Maharashtra government has also approved equity support for the project, most recently a release of ₹39.20 crore. Project expenditure was ₹1,723 crore in 2025-26.
The project needs 168 acres, all within the existing Koradi premises. Water of 34.69 MM3 per annum will come from tertiary treated water, with 15% backup from Pench Dam.
