Uttar Pradesh Plans Over ₹15,000 Crore Land Acquisition of About 8,200 Hectares for Vindhya, Meerut-Haridwar and Vindhya Purvanchal Link Greenfield Expressways
The Uttar Pradesh government has drawn up a plan to acquire nearly 8,200 hectares for three greenfield expressways. The projects are the 320-km Vindhya Expressway, the 145-km Meerut-Haridwar Expressway and the 100-km Vindhya Purvanchal Link Expressway, totalling 565 km. The land acquisition will cost more than ₹15,000 crore from the state exchequer. UPEIDA is the nodal agency developing all three.
The state has finalised the alignments of the three expressways, which will pass through about 650 villages in Uttar Pradesh and Haridwar district in Uttarakhand.
The Vindhya Expressway is the largest of the three and will need about 4,615 hectares across 109 villages in eastern UP. It will extend the 594-km Ganga Expressway to Sonbhadra via Prayagraj, Bhadohi and Mirzapur districts.
The Meerut-Haridwar Expressway will extend the Ganga Expressway from Meerut to Haridwar. It requires about 2,020 hectares across 184 villages in Amroha and Bijnor districts of western UP and in Haridwar district.
The Vindhya Purvanchal Link Expressway will need 1,560 hectares across 140 villages in Chandauli, Ghazipur and Mirzapur districts of eastern UP.
The Ganga Expressway was developed by UPEIDA on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis at a cost of ₹36,000 crore to the state exchequer. It was inaugurated on April 29, 2026, and connects 12 UP districts. The source does not state the project costs, construction schedules or implementation models for the three new expressways.
