Uttar Pradesh Plans ₹5,000 Crore Regional Medical Hub at Jewar, Gautam Buddh Nagar
The Uttar Pradesh government has identified Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar district for development of a regional medical hub with an estimated investment of ₹5,000 crore. The proposed UP Cares Jewar Regional Medical Hub is intended to position the state as a destination for medical value tourism.
The project is planned across nearly 200 acres and is envisioned as an integrated "medicity" bringing together multi-specialty hospitals, medical education institutions, research centres, advanced diagnostics and rehabilitation services at a single site. Planned facilities include AYUSH centres, medical value tourism facilitation centres, advanced diagnostic infrastructure, and post-treatment care and rehabilitation units.
The hub is proposed to be funded by the World Bank, which has prepared a preliminary project report. World Bank representatives are expected to present the plan to the state's Chief Secretary before the project moves to its next planning stage.
The proposal follows the Union Budget 2026-27, which announced support for setting up five regional medical hubs across India in partnership with the private sector to promote medical value tourism. Jewar was selected in part due to its existing infrastructure corridor, which includes the upcoming international airport, expressways and logistics projects, seen as advantages for attracting patients from within India and abroad.
The project is expected to generate large-scale employment for doctors, nurses and allied health professionals once developed, alongside strengthening the state's broader healthcare and investment ecosystem.
