Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to set up a 50 tonne-per-day (TPD) green waste processing plant to produce smokeless charcoal for commercial and household use. The unit will form part of a larger 200 TPD municipal solid waste processing project being developed at Bhuasuni.

Under the project, 150 tonnes of municipal solid waste at the integrated facility will be processed into various value-added products, while the separate 50 TPD unit will exclusively convert green waste, drawn from the city's horticultural and garden waste, into charcoal.

The project adds to BMC's existing waste management infrastructure in the city and is intended to reduce the volume of green waste sent to landfill while creating a usable fuel product from horticultural residue.
