Ultraviolette to Invest ₹779 Crore in New BIGGA EV Factory in Hosur, Tamil Nadu
Ultraviolette Automotive has announced plans to invest approximately ₹779 crore over four to five years to establish a new manufacturing facility near Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The plant, named the BIGGA (Big Global Ambition) Factory, will be located at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri, with land facilitated by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
The facility will initially manufacture the company's upcoming Tesseract electric scooter before expanding to support a broader product portfolio. Phase I is planned with an annual capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles, with infrastructure designed to scale to 5 lakh vehicles annually in a second phase expected after 2029, depending on market demand.
Hosur was chosen for its established automotive manufacturing ecosystem and proximity to Ultraviolette's existing Bengaluru R&D operations and supplier network. The new facility will operate alongside the company's current Bengaluru plant, which will continue its existing operations.
The project is expected to create around 2,000 direct jobs in Phase I, potentially rising to 4,000-5,000 if the second phase is implemented. The company anticipates export sales to Europe and Latin America to grow from around 15 per cent to 25 per cent of volumes within five years, and expects the Tesseract to generate demand of at least 10,000 units a month. The expansion is being funded through internal resources and future cash flow.
