Torrent Power Commissions 322 MWp Decentralized Solar Portfolio Across Nashik, Maharashtra
Torrent Power Limited has commissioned a 322 MWp ground-mounted, decentralized solar portfolio spread across 50 locations and 14 talukas in Maharashtra's Nashik district. The project was developed by Torrent Green Energy Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Torrent Power, under the Mukhyamantri Saur Krushi Vahini Yojana (MSKVY) 2.0, and supports feeder-level solarisation under Component-C of the central PM-KUSUM scheme.
The electricity generated will be supplied to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement. The decentralised solar units are expected to provide daytime electricity to agricultural feeders, improve local grid efficiency and help reduce distribution losses, supporting the state's push to solarise agricultural power supply.
Torrent Power, part of the ₹49,000 crore Torrent Group, operates as an integrated power utility with generation spanning gas, renewable and coal-based assets. The company currently has approximately 6.66 GWp of operational generation capacity, including 2.2 GWp of renewable capacity, and around 9.16 GW under construction, comprising roughly 4.56 GWp of renewable projects, 3 GW of pumped storage and 1.6 GW of coal-based capacity.
The addition of the 322 MWp Maharashtra portfolio expands Torrent Power's renewable energy footprint and supports the broader decentralisation of India's power distribution infrastructure.
