Tehri power complex set for major expansion

Power Generation  -  Jul 18,2024  -

With the ongoing works at the Tehri Hydro Power Complex in Tehri Garhwal, the project is set for major expansion and would boost India's renewable energy capacity with a combined output of 2400 MW.

Butterfly Valve Chamber, Machine Hall, and outfall of the Tehri PSP are crucial components.

The overall project in Uttarakhand includes the Tehri Hydro Power Plant, Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project, and Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP), designed to meet the region's power, irrigation, and drinking water requirements during non-monsoon periods.

Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, inspected the ongoing works and examined the construction activities at the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP). He also reviewed the progress on river joining works, essential for integrating the PSP into the existing water management systems.

He urged the team to focus on completing the remaining project phases as per the set deadlines, and commended THDC India's (THDCIL) efforts in advancing hydropower technology.
