Infrastructure  -  Jul 18,2024  -

NLC India has emerged as the successful bidder for the Machhakata coal mine in Angul district of Odisha in the eighth round of commercial coal block e-auction held recently by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India (Gol).

Accordingly, the Ministry of Coal and NLC India executed the Coal Mine Development and Production Agreement (CMDPA) of Machhakata (revised) coal mine on 15 July, 2024, during the agreement ceremony held at Shastri Bhavan, Ministry of Coal, New Delhi.

The coal mine block has a total coal reserve of 1.38 billion tonne approx., with an opera table peak-rated capacity of 30 million tpa. This is the second commercial coal mine block won by the PSU after North Dhadu coal block (Western part).

The company is committed to capacity augmentation, as per its vision of achieving more than 100 MTPA by 2030 from 50 MTPA currently.

Coal produced from this coal block will address the energy security, while also exploring alternative means of energy production from coal like gasification.
