Technip Energies Wins EPC Contract for 550 KTA Hydrocracker and 850 KTA Solvent Deasphalting Units at HPCL Mumbai Refinery

Petroleum Oct 13,2026

Technip Energies has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). The contract is for HPCL’s Lube Modernization and Bottom Upgradation (LMBU) project at its Mumbai Refinery in Maharashtra.

The scope covers two processing units. One is a 550 KTA Integrated Hydrocracker and Catalytic Dewaxing (IHCD) unit. The other is an 850 KTA Solvent Deasphalting (SDA) unit. Both will be integrated into the existing refinery infrastructure.

The project aims to modernise HPCL’s production of lube oil base stocks, which are used in automotive engine oils and industrial lubricants. The new units will also upgrade heavier refinery streams into higher-value products.

Technip Energies said the contract reflects HPCL’s confidence in its EPC delivery capabilities. The two companies have worked together for more than two decades.
