The much-anticipated Surat Metro, Phase 1, is expected to be operational by June 2025, according to officials. The project, which is part of Gujarat's efforts to modernize urban transportation, will provide a crucial boost to the city's infrastructure and help alleviate traffic congestion.

The Phase 1 section of the Surat Metro will include a 40-kilometer route, covering several key areas of the city. It will connect important neighborhoods such as Sarthana, Dream City, and the city’s business districts, thereby improving accessibility for daily commuters. The metro is expected to accommodate a large volume of passengers, with an estimated daily ridership of over 3 lakh people once fully operational.

The project is being developed in two corridors: Corridor 1, which will connect Sarthana to the Surat Railway Station, and Corridor 2, which will link the Gujarat National Law University to the city's southern regions. This ambitious metro plan is seen as a long-term solution to Surat's growing urban mobility needs, offering a sustainable and efficient mode of transport.
