Power Grid Wins Inter-State Transmission Project for Bhadla-III, Ramgarh and Kanpur Substations
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has been declared the successful bidder under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route for an inter-state transmission system project titled "Augmentation at Bhadla-III, Ramgarh PS and Kanpur (PG)." The company received the Letter of Intent from REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), the bid process coordinator, on July 9, 2026.
The project will be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis and comprises augmentation and bay extension works at the Bhadla-III and Ramgarh substations in Rajasthan, along with the Kanpur substation in Uttar Pradesh. Five companies competed at the commercial bidding stage, including Adani Energy Solutions Limited, Ceigall India Limited, Dilip Buildcon Limited and H G Infra Engineering Limited, with POWERGRID emerging as the successful bidder.
The scheme is intended to strengthen the evacuation of renewable energy from Rajasthan, which has around 20 GW of solar and wind capacity planned under the state's Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) programme. The augmentation works are designed to improve power transfer capability and facilitate transmission of renewable energy to demand centres across northern and western India.
As part of project implementation, POWERGRID will acquire 100% equity in Bhadla Ramgarh Power Transmission Limited, the special purpose vehicle incorporated for the project. All transmission assets under the scheme are scheduled to achieve commercial operation by January 20, 2029.
