Pondy Oxides and Chemicals to Set Up ₹200 Crore Copper Recycling Plant at Thervoykandigai, Tamil Nadu
Pondy Oxides and Chemicals Limited has received board approval for setting up a new copper recycling plant at Thervoykandigai in Tamil Nadu at a project cost of approximately ₹200 crore. The facility will be funded entirely through internal accruals and is targeted for commissioning on or before December 2026.
The plant will have an installed capacity of 36,000 MTPA of LME Grade A Copper Cathode and will be implemented in two phases of 18,000 MTPA each. The production process will employ integrated pyro-refining and electro-refining technology.
The project is positioned as a forward integration into value-added non-ferrous recycling, expanding the company's existing capabilities in secondary metal processing. Output from the facility is intended to serve both domestic and export markets.
The facility is also expected to contribute to reducing India's dependence on imported copper by increasing the availability of domestically recycled copper cathode. Direct and indirect employment generation has been cited among the project's anticipated outcomes, though specific numbers have not been disclosed.
