PM Modi to inaugurate Rs 83,000 crore port projects in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra

The Central government is set to launch two mega projects entailing more than Rs 83,000 crore investment in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra before the announcement of polls dates.

The project is Tamil Nadu will increase the handling capacity to the Chidambaranar port, the Vadhavan port in Maharashtra will be the first major port to be developed after more than two decades.

It is said that PM Modi is scheduled to launch the Outer Harbour project of Chidambaranar Port at a cost of Rs 7,065 crore.

According to a report in Times of India, the Cabinet chaired by Modi approved the project to develop four berths that will add 4 million twenty-foot equivalent unit capcaity to the port and create capability to service mega container vessels.

The project is essential to cater to the growing demand for gateway and transshipment cargo.
