Infrastructure  -  Feb 27,2024  -

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially dedicated to the nation a landmark 50 MW solar power plant, the largest of its kind commissioned for the Indian Railways, located at Bhilai.

Implemented by Sherisha Rooftop Solar SPV Four Private Limited, a step-down subsidiary of Refex Renewables & Infrastructure Limited, the plant aims to harness solar energy to power trains, promote green energy, and curb carbon emissions.

Spread across 192 acres, the solar plant is set to generate over 104 million units annually for the Indian Railways, thereby significantly reducing CO2 emissions by over 1 lakh tonnes per year.

Awarded by the Railway Energy Management Company Limited, in collaboration with the South East Central Railway (SECR), the project has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with SECR for 25 years.

In a video conferencing event titled 'Viksit Bharat Viksit Chhattisgarh,' PM Modi inaugurated and dedicated various development projects worth over Rs 34,400 crore, spanning sectors like Roads, Railways, Coal, Power, and Solar Energy.

Addressing the project, Anil Jain, Chairman of Refex Group, expressed deep pride in contributing to India's renewable energy goals and the Indian Railways' vision of becoming a Net Zero Carbon emitter by 2030.

Refex Group has undertaken other significant projects in the renewable energy sector, including a solar power plant with battery storage for the Indian Army in Siachen and a 2MW pilot project in Diwana, Haryana.
