Olectra Greentech Plans 400–500 Crore Investment in Heavy-Duty Electric Truck Manufacturing Capacity Expansion at Hyderabad Facility
Olectra Greentech is set to accelerate expansion beyond electric buses, with plans to foray into heavy commercial electric vehicles, battery systems and integrated manufacturing. The Hyderabad-based company intends to invest ₹400–500 crore over the next two years, with long-term investments potentially scaling up to ₹2,000–5,000 crore across product development, capacity expansion and advanced battery technologies.
A key part of the next phase includes developing a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer and a 38-tonne electric tipper, with commercial deliveries expected from the fourth quarter of FY27. In FY26, Olectra delivered 1,280 electric vehicles and closed the year with an order book of 10,161 units, while its deployed fleet has expanded to nearly 4,000 EVs across the country.
Olectra's greenfield EV manufacturing facility at Seetharampur, Telangana, commenced commercial operations on December 31, 2025. Phase I has a per-shift annual production capacity of 2,500 electric buses, representing 50 per cent of the planned per-shift capacity of 5,000 buses per year.
The broader ₹700 crore capital commitment — comprising ₹400 crore already allocated for next-generation vehicle platforms and an additional ₹200–300 crore for battery-pack assembly and electric truck manufacturing — is aimed at achieving 60 per cent localisation to meet PM E-Drive scheme criteria.
